18th International Conference of Conservation-Restoration Studies
Split, May 8 – 9, 2025 [in-person event]
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The Conservation-Restoration Department of the Arts Academy in Split is delighted to announce the Call for Participation in the 18th International Conference of Conservation-Restoration Studies that will take place in-person, in Split, Croatia, May 8 – 9, 2025.
The first Conference of Conservation-Restoration Studies was organised in 2004. Since then, the conference has been held alternately in three Croatian cities that offer conservation-restoration study programmes: in Split, Zagreb and Dubrovnik. The Arts Academy in Split (Conservation-Restoration Department), Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (Department for Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art), and the University of Dubrovnik (Department of Art and Restoration) take turns in organising the event.
The conference gained an international character early on: students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana (Department for Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art) have been regularly presenting since 2006. Over the years, the network of study programmes whose students have participated in the event has significantly grown. The last conference, which was held during the pandemic (2021), went virtual for the first time, which enabled students from outside Europe to take part, as well.
The 18th International Conference of the Conservation-Restoration Studies will take place after a four-year pause, the longest one so far. In a way, the conference begins anew. For that reason, we have decided to follow the original concept of the conference, and to bring together primarily students (and teachers) of the three Croatian study programs, as well as our long-standing partners from Ljubljana. This year’s call for papers is open only to conservation-restoration students studying in Split, Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Ljubljana. The poster session, however, is open to ALL interested students, regardless of the institution at which they are studying.
Students can present their work in the form of a lecture or with a poster. They can apply to participate regardless of their specialization or year/level of study, if the work they will present has been performed during their studies, and if they have obtained their mentor(s) approval. The organisers do not review the applications, so the mentor (or mentors) needs to make sure that the theme of the talk/poster is appropriate for the conference, and that it is presented in a suitable manner.
Since the last conference took place in 2021, the forthcoming conference is open to those who have graduated from conservation-restoration studies in the period from 2021 to 2025, under the condition that they present a project they worked on during their studies. (Presenting projects that were realised after graduation is strictly forbidden.)
Croatian and English are the official languages of this year’s conference. That means that oral presentations can be delivered either in Croatian or in English. Equally, posters can be presented either in Croatian or in English.
As always, the conference will be open for public and there will be no registration fee.
Deadline for submission of applications is April 10, 2025. To apply, please fill out the Application Form (available below) and submit the required image materials. The applications should be sent by e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Other important dates are listed below.
Speakers are expected to deliver a pre-recorded presentation (video-presentation) before the conference. Poster authors are required to deliver their posters in PDF. Those materials will be published on the conference website after the event and thus be made permanently available to present and future conservation-restoration students, heritage experts and the interested public. Detailed guidelines for preparing oral and poster presentations will be published on the conference website soon.

We look forward to your participation, and to seeing you in Split!
